The Mississippi Delta is unlike any other area. It's rich in both culture and tradition but still struggles with a deep history of poverty and prejudices.
In photographing the Delta I observed and captured both the socio-economical and psychological challenges of the local people, as well their battles with natural hardships such as flooded land and houses. Many of the towns along the Delta encounter high unemployment rates, and I found examples of many local businesses deserted, their buildings crumbled to the ground.
But the Delta is an intriguing place, despite its challenges. I was charmed and inspired by the resilience of its people, and their stories. My photographs strive to weave a story of the people of the Delta, and their journey through the changes and challenges of the American South.
